Successful Savings

Most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. In fact, 50% of Americans are living this way. That is a huge number of people who would be in big trouble without their next paycheck.

The key to successful savings is to understand why you’re not saving money.

How does this happen? Well, there are a few reasons that someone may be living paycheck to paycheck:

Living Above Your Means: Living above your means is when you’re spending most of your money to support your lifestyle. Do you live in a really nice apartment or home that takes most of your paycheck? Did you get a car that was too expensive for you to reasonably afford? Do you spend a lot of money on subscriptions, the newest electronics, or the newest clothes? These all add up and will cause you to start living above your means.

Not Having A Savings Goal: If you don’t have a savings goal, then you aren’t able to see the big picture. Not seeing the big picture will make it easier for you to spend money unnecessarily. If you aren’t saving for emergencies or a comfortable retirement, then you will not look at money the same way as other people. You will view your money as a way to buy trending goods and services instead of a way to create a better future for yourself.

Personal Situations: Sometimes personal situations make it very difficult to save money. Maybe you just started a family and depleted your savings. Maybe you lost your job. You might have just received a huge medical bill. There are countless situations that can make it hard for a person to save money. It is important to start saving as soon as possible. Even if personal situations have caused you problems, stay positive and get back on track as soon as you can.

Not Understanding The Importance Of Savings: Some people don’t understand the importance of savings. Saving money is not a topic that is commonly discussed. We live in a society that pushes advertisements for various products. The society that we live in values name brands and keeping up with fashion trends. We are surrounded by so many goods and services that it may be hard to commit to a savings plan. Savings are very important to have. Saving money is more important than making a fashion statement or having the newest phones. Having money saved will make life easier and less stressful.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to overcome these situations:

Create A Budget Plan: Creating a budget plan will ensure that you know where your money is going. You will know how much of your money is going to bills and how much of your money is being spent on things that aren’t necessary. You will also be able to allocate a certain amount of money to your savings account each paycheck.

Create Savings Goals: A savings goal is separate from a budget plan. While a budget plan will help you know where your money is going, a savings goal will set expectations for how much money you want to be saving.

Cut Out Unnecessary Expenses: You may be spending money on subscriptions that you aren’t even using. This is money that is going to waste. Try to avoid eating out several nights of the week. This money adds up. Take a look at where your money is going and cut out anything that is unnecessary. This will give you more money to work with in your budget.

Find Ways To Spend Less: There are other ways to free up some of your money. Try shopping around for the best deal on things you need. Find stores with lower prices for groceries. Go to discount stores for clothes and electronics. Wait until there is a sale if you’re going to make a big purchase. This will save you money. When you are spending less money, you will have more money that can go into savings.

Consider Finding A Job That Pays More: If you can find a job that pays better than your current job, you may want to consider changing jobs. This will make budgeting easier, especially if you are living above your means.

Don’t Spend Your Savings: While it may be tempting to spend your savings, this is not a good idea. You’re putting the money back for emergencies or retirement. One way to avoid spending your savings is to pretend that the money isn’t actually there. Don’t factor that money into your budget. Instead, keep putting money into savings each paycheck and let the money build over time.

Saving money can be a hard task! Try to find ways to save money on purchases, cut out unnecessary expenses, and commit to a savings goal. Avoid living paycheck to paycheck. This is a very stressful way to live. I really hope that this post has helped you! Best of luck.

Budgeting For Beginners

Lets be real, sticking to a budget can be hard work! How can you make a budget and stick to it?

  1. Follow the 50/30/20 Rule

The 50/30/20 rule is a ratio designed to allot how much of your money should be going to different areas of your finances. The 50/30/20 rule is based on your income after taxes. 50 percent of your income should be going to your needs. Your needs are things such a housing, car insurance, gas, food, and other necessary bills you may have. If this category takes up more than half of your income, find ways to reduce this category. 30 percent of your income should be going to things you want such as eating at restaurants, subscriptions, shopping, etc. This 30 percent is designed for the things you want. 20 percent of your income should be going to savings and paying off debt. Saving part of your income will create a great safety net incase an emergency arises.

2. Write It Down

The easiest way to make a budget and stick to it is to write everything down. When you commit to writing down everything you spend money on, including small items, you can see exactly where your money is going. This will allow you to cut back in areas that you are spending too much money on. Get a book or journal specifically for tracking your spending. This doesn’t have to be a fancy book, just find a safe place to write down your spending record. You may prefer to write this down in your phone. Everyone is different, just remember to write down it down when you make a purchase!

3. Don’t Pay Market Price

This is huge! Never pay market price for something you want. Shop around on places like Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, and thrift stores. You can find the same item you want at these places for so much cheaper. If you’re looking for a car, phone, designer bag, video game console, or a TV, check other places first. These items can be found in so many other places for half the price. I’m a firm believer in this. It can save you hundreds of dollars over time.

4. Refinance Loans

Loans vary in interest rates and length. Refinancing a loan could save you money depending on your current interest rate and the length of your loan. Interest is the amount of money you’re paying just to borrow money. Why pay more for a loan than you have to? Something to consider is the length of your loan. Longer loans will be less expensive to pay monthly. However, these loans will be far more expensive overall. If you can afford to pay more money monthly, consider refinancing for a loan with a shorter loan period.

5. Pay Off Debt

Paying off debt will allow you to have more money per month. Imagine no longer having a car payment, a credit card payment, or a loan payment. How much money would that free up during the course of a month? Paying off debt is important for a stable financial future.

6. Don’t Impulse Buy

Impulse buying is very bad when you’re trying to stick to a budget. Follow the 30 Day Rule when you feel yourself attempting to make an impulse buy. For example, if you want to buy a new phone, wait 30 days and think about the decision. If you still want the phone after 30 days, then purchase the phone. I would like to add, while you’re debating buying an item, start saving up for it so that you won’t struggle after your purchase. Remember to look for this item at different stores and find the best deal you can. This will save you money!

7. Set Goals

While you’re following a new budget strategy, start setting goals. Pick debts you want to get paid off in a certain amount of time and try to achieve this goal. Or, set a savings goal. Find a reasonable amount of money to save and do your best to achieve this. Once you have achieved your goal, reward yourself for your dedication.

8. Be Realistic

While you’re on your budgeting journey, be realistic. Don’t set a savings goal that you can’t achieve based on your income. Don’t spend all of your money trying to pay off a debt all at once. Set a budget based on your personal circumstances. Create a time frame that will work for you. Remember, emergencies happen. Maybe your car broke down or you have an unexpected hospital visit. While these things can be frustrating, keep trying. These may be setbacks, but you can still reach your goals. Adjust your goals based on your personal circumstances.

Say Yes To Success

The idea of success is different from person to person. Some people will feel successful when they settle into their career jobs. Other people will feel successful when they earn their first college degree. Other ideas of success include a happy family life or an early retirement. While the idea of success varies from person to person, everyone wants to feel successful. The first step in achieving your success is determining what your idea of success is.

After doing a bit of research, I have discovered that many successful people share a few habits. The type of people I have researched are those with high incomes. The shared habits are listed blow:

  1. Wake Up Early. Successful people are eager to start their day early. Waking up early is a chance to take control of your life. This is a time for self reflection, meditation, or a morning routine. If you would like to begin waking up early but have issues getting up when your alarm goes off, there is a product that may help. This is an alarm that won’t cut off until you stand on the mat:
  2. Read. Whether you enjoy reading or view it as a chore, successful people tend to do a lot of reading. The type of reading that successful people choose is educational reading. Reading is a time for growth and development. Knowledge is power.
  3. Exercise. A healthy body and a healthy mind work together. Successful people understand the importance of a healthy body and set time aside to exercise.
  4. Goal Setting. People who are successful set goals. These people have a clear idea of the things they want to do and set goals and time frames to achieve these tasks.
  5. Earn More Than One Income. Earning multiple incomes is a strategy that most successful people use. Earning multiple incomes creates financial stability. Passive income is a powerful tool. Passive income is an income that doesn’t require a lot of effort to maintain. If you are interested in earning more than one income, I recommend this book:

Do you want to say goodbye to the 40 hour work week? Would you like to earn money working from home or even traveling? People around the world are actually living this life. Some people earn their income blogging, creating YouTube content, or affiliate marketing. You could be next. There are endless possibilities for your life. If you are interested in quitting your day job and earning money online, there are options. (I don’t recommend quitting your day job until you are earning steady income elsewhere). Best of luck and remember, say yes to success.

Tracking Fitness Progress

Tracking fitness progress should be a priority for anyone who intends to reach a fitness goal. Some people intend to lose wight and others intend to gain in. No matter what your individual goal is, tracking progress is a must. Tracking your beginning weight, the exercises that you do each day, and how much you’re eating will give you a huge advantage. This will give you insight on strategies that worked for you. I recommended a journal like this one to track your progress:

There is more to health and fitness than the number that your scale reads. The human body can fluctuate by up to six pounds per day. This weight fluctuation is caused by muscle gain, food in your stomach, and water weight. The best time to weigh yourself is in the morning. I don’t recommend weighing yourself every day. It is better to weigh yourself once every two weeks. This will give you a better idea of whether you are gaining or losing weight over a period of time. Another important thing to keep in mind is that body fat weighs less than muscle. When you begin to workout and gain muscle, it is possible that you will see a small increase in your body weight before you start to lose weight. If your goal is weight loss, don’t let this discourage you. This is completely normal.

A more accurate way of tracking your body fat is to use a measuring tape. Make sure to measure yourself in the same location every time you take measurements. You should be measuring your bust, calves, chest, forearm, hips, thighs, upper arm, and your waist. Record this information so that you will be able to track it over time. Taking measurements with a measuring tape should be done about once a week. This will allow you to accurately track your progress.

When considering your health, there are other important factors that can indicate where your health stands. Heart rate, blood pressure, and the amount of oxygen in your blood are important health factors. Knowing where you stand can detect early signs of health problems. I recommend this smart watch because it is on the less expensive side but it still tracks all of these important health factors: This watch offers many other helpful features but I recommended it because it tracks heart rate, blood pressure, and the amount of oxygen in the blood. If you’re interested in seeing more of the features, click the link.

To recap, there are several factors that cause weight fluctuation. In addition to weighing yourself, you should also be measuring the key points of your body. Remember to check your blood pressure and heart rate regularly to look for early warning signs of health problems. Have a wonderful day and remember to stay healthy!

What is your path in life?

Family and peers have a huge impact on the choices we make in life. These are people who have been with us from a very early age. It makes sense that our choices will be influenced by these people, right? We have all been put in a situation where the decision to make ourselves happy and the decision to make those around us happy don’t align. Are you being pressured by loved ones to walk a path that doesn’t necessarily make you happy? For most of us, the answer is yes. Life can yield some pretty hard decisions over the years. Sometimes you have to make the decisions that are best for you regardless of how other people feel. This is your life, after all.

Our friends and family want what is best for us. These people will push us so hard to do well in life. Sometimes, they just don’t realize the decisions they’re trying to get you to make are not decisions that you want to make. I have been pressured by my family from a young age to join the medical field. I am one year away from completing my nursing degree. One day, I had to stop myself and ask if this is what I really wanted from life. The answer is no. I have invested three years of college towards something that I don’t want to do.

My message to you is make yourself happy. I want all of you to stop and think about where you are at in life. Are you satisfied? Are you investing in yourself? Here are some tips to consider:

  • Evaluate. Think about what you want in life. Make sure you’re making decisions based on what you want to do. Don’t let other people persuade you to make decisions that will steer you away from what you want to do.
  • Consider your own happiness. Making sure you are happy is the most important part of my message.
  • Plan. Start working towards your path. Perhaps you want to be a nurse, a writer, an actor, etc. Whatever you want to do in life, start working towards it.
  • Seek help. If you know what path you want to take but don’t know where to start, seek help. Contact other people who are in the profession you would like to join. Ask them how they got where they’re at in their career.

The sky is the limit. You only live once. It is so important to focus on making yourself happy. Even taking one small step at a time will get you moving in the right direction. Best of luck!

Mental Health

Mental health is a topic that is often avoided in conversation. However, mental health is a huge part of being a healthy person. A healthy mind leads to a healthy life. Every person has something that they can do to work on their mental health. Here are a few tips to work on your mental health. Stay healthy.

  • Focus on doing things that make you happy each day. Spend time working on your hobbies. No matter what your hobbies are, take time for yourself to do something you enjoy.
  • Set time aside to evaluate your goals. Make sure the path you’re walking is leading you the direction you’re trying to go in life. If you don’t, you’re likely to experience cognitive dissonance. This is when your thoughts, actions, and beliefs don’t line up. When you experience cognitive dissonance, you’ll continue to be in a state of stress and unhappiness until you make the necessary changes to resolve the cognitive dissonance.
  • Change your perspective. When you train your mind to see the best in every situation, you’ll begin to become happier and stress less.
  • Get some exercise. Exercise releases dopamine into the brain. Dopamine is a chemical released that makes the mind feel happy. This is why exercise plays such an important role in making people happy when they’re stressed. Try to exercise a little each day. This will improve your overall mental state.
  • Remove stress from your life. Are you hanging out with the wrong group of people? Is your hard-work at your job constantly going unnoticed? Life can be stressful and it is something that everyone experiences. However, too much stress will take a negative toll on the mind. Find ways to remove unnecessary stress.
  • Talk to someone about how you are feeling. Talking to someone can reduce your stress. Take a second to talk to a friend or family member. The people close to you may be able to help you but might not see that you have something on your chest that you need to talk about. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to someone, write it in a journal. Expressing your feelings is really good for the mind.

Remember, no matter what you’re going through, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you’re doing well in life, following these tips will improve the quality of your life. Be safe, have fun, stay healthy.

Stop Hoping for Your Dreams to Come True

Good evening. I’m here to tell you to stop hoping for your dreams to come true. Life is short and there’s no time to waste. Start making your dreams come true. How old are you? Are you 20, 40, 60 years old? Are you somewhere in between? It doesn’t matter. You are never too old or too young to start working on your dreams. Let me ask you another question, how do you spend your time? Are you like most people and work your job and then go home? At what point in your day do you invest in your future self? You are not having a productive day if you do not set time aside to work on yourself. Each of you needs to set time aside to work on your health, planning your future, thinking about finances, etc. Each of us has something that we need to improve on.

I’ll openly admit that there are things I need to work on. I had thought about making a blog for a long time but I did not put the effort forward to create my blog until recently. Hope is not the reason that I currently have my blog. Effort and persistence is the reason I have my blog. I set time aside in my day to work on my writing. I want to be a blogger. This is how I am working on my goals. Set some time aside to think about your future. Make a plan that you can reasonably follow. Stop hoping for your dreams to come true. Now is the time to put the effort in and get results. I am challenging each of you. This is the time to improve yourself. Stop hoping, start doing.

Start Saying I Will

When you were a kid, did you have a crazy dream that you chose not to follow? Most of us do. I personally wanted to be a singer. What holds us back from trying? For me, it was the inability to have a stable income. For others, it is their stage-fright or their fear of judgment. Do not let your fear hold you back from what you love to do. I continue to do performances whenever I get the chance but I don’t pursue singing for monetary purposes. Perhaps you wanted to be a writer, or a doctor, or a performer. Go start a blog, apply to your local college, go to an acting audition. Start chasing your dreams today. Until you put hard work and dedication into your dreams, they will only be dreams.

Your future starts with you. Embrace change. Learn to love the feeling of being uncomfortable. If you spend your entire life in your comfort zone, you will never learn to live. You owe it to yourself to chase your dreams. Each of you amazing people has a purpose. You still have a heartbeat in your chest because your story is still being written. I am challenging everyone to take some time tonight to think about the path you’re walking in life. Are you content? Do you even know what you want to do in life? It doesn’t matter if you’re twenty or if you’re sixty, you can still make the decision to open a new chapter in your life and start fresh. I have always known that my purpose in life was to help others. This week I realized that my words have power and that I can help others by being an uplifting light. This is my purpose and I am here for you!

Get Motivated, Get Results

Who is your role model? How would you describe this person? Motivated? Determined? What about your role model do you admire? Each day that passes is a chance for you to become a role model for someone else. Do not try to be your role model. Identify the qualities that you admire about them, whether it’s their kindness or their financial success and instill those qualities in yourself. Continue to be the person that you are today but allow yourself to grow and possess those qualities. Get up. Go do something today. Hold a door for a stranger, give a compliment to someone you don’t know, go for a walk, work on yourself! Pull yourself away from any and all negativity that you might have in your life and do something about it. Don’t sit around and wait for change to happen. Go make change happen. Life is short and this is your only chance to do it right!

A Growth Mindset

Could you see yourself being the exact same person five years from now? I hope that you answered no! Life is about continuously growing and bettering yourself as a person. Whether you get a job promotion or decide to start your own business, you need to keep growing. I personally embrace change with open arms. I am twenty years old and I have been the assistant store manager for two businesses. I’m in school for nursing. But, each day I see people settling in life. Don’t settle. You owe yourself so much more than that. Follow your dreams and your passions. I believe that every single one of you has a purpose and are meant to do amazing things. Make it happen. Think of one thing you have always wanted to do but haven’t yet. Go make it happen!
